"Bon Appetit"

I think some of my best pieces are the ones that I’ve thought about doing for a long time. This has been on the backburner for a while, ever since I saw it on rue Paul Bert in Paris. Just around the corner from Samantha and Morgan, this is the cutest little bistro with great seafood brought in from the coast of Normandy.

When I went to Paris I was on a mission to get images of sinks and faucets, kitchens, and baths. This is a combination of Aunt Mimi’s wallpaper, Chantel’s soap dispenser, and miscellaneous other subjects. Now the comments so far are “I LOVE the wallpaper”, and “I like everything, but the wallpaper I’m not sure of.” I did think about this when I was painting. If I went plain walls it would be more contemporary I think – but, I loved the wallpaper. So I guess go with what you love, huh?

What I love about feedback is that it opens your eyes to other possibilities. Now I want to paint one without wall paper and see where that goes.

Taking just a camera this time, so no lugging equipment through airports and metros. I might miss painting, but this one all about the kids and the baby. We are going to Marsailles though to get lots of reference material to bring back, and the weather is going to be 75, so there will be lots of people outside in cafes.

Sometimes when you paint so much like I’ve been doing, it all comes together. The past two days I’ve had so much fun in the studio – I put the brush to paint and just know what color I want, the shapes come together, and the composition falls into place. Stella needs to be a bit bigger and I need a few more hours to finish.
Guess packing will have to wait.

  •  Walking to the market in Paris on a Saturday is always an adventure. The day had warmed up and at the entrance was this a group of 15 or so musicians, playing their hearts out. I’ve wanted to capture their energy on canvas for a while and thought that last nights event, “Blues on Broad” was a perfect time.
