Meanwhile, back in the studio I’ve been busy working on getting paintings ready for The Southeastern Wildlife Exhibition. Birds, marshes, and things that represent the South are all included in the show. (Some are featured on the Lowcountry page if you click on “paintings”

It’s a new year with 365 days of painting – minus Sundays to give my brushes a rest. I love this time of year, when I hunker down in the studio and try to look at everything in a fresh new way. I have a new palette that I’ve separated into cools on the left and warms on the right. Because most colors have both of these temperatures, I’m experimenting with this set up and really pleased with the results. I’m finding it really helpful for teaching also as it simplifies the “temperature” hurdle that confounds painters who are starting off.

Now I just want to go back in the studio and paint. I’ve been trying different palette, different brushes, and just experimenting with some new things.

I’ve also been going out again to paint with friends. I don’t do that enough and I’m so grateful when I’m out there in good company and putting paint down on canvas. I am always in awe when I am out there and realize I get to do this for a living.

“Path to the Beach” 12×10 was done on Folly beach a few weeks back. This one and some other new pieces that are small enough for holiday gifts are at the gallery.
